“With immediacy the song swallows up your senses, with one female voice soon joined by many. Wind and percussion carry it with power, and in time the men of the country thrust their voices into the fray, which then mixes and meshes with the entire affair. ”
The winds blow over the hills as they catch my hair and keep it aloft amongst their tendrils. The grass bows and the branches of the trees creak under the gales. The town has gathered and have begun their ritual of song and dance beneath the spring sun. Both men and women call out to the mountains and valleys to join them, steadfast in their commitment to encircle their land with harmony and virtue. There is no effort made for profit or for fame, as the continuity of the work of their ancestors is worth more than their own weight in gold. They are the newest links in the chain, and each generation aims to be the strongest — unbreakable. As I open my eyes at my desk I realize I’m still here, with this magnificent story to tell about a place I’ve never been. Armenia is what I speak of, and the song “Dzayn Lerneric” by Sasna Tzrer is what projected it.
With immediacy the song swallows up your senses, with one female voice soon joined by many. Wind and percussion carry it with power, and in time the men of the country thrust their voices into the fray, which then mixes and meshes with the entire affair. The result is a harmonious bellow of thousands of years of culture which takes up residence in your mind until its cessation. Despite my long hours and due diligence to the organization, my late night listen of this has invigorated my soul and allowed me to remain awake with no need for rest. Through my studies, it is a great satisfaction that these people have been so resilient, and many generations have pushed through occupations and genocides to not keep their traditions under lock and key, but to proudly flap it in the wind and share it with the world. The Surface world that is, until I bring its splendor to our attention. I can count on my fingers the number of colleagues who are even aware of this country’s existence, but hopefully now the grandeur of it will enlighten more of the Warren as a result. Fin.
